They are a box of headaches, most suffer from not so great build quality, are overly complex so very few technicians will service them. In the world of 2 channel music listening there are better and simpler options.
But this one is a very rare vintage Top Of The Line Pioneer A/V Surround Amplifier model VSA-9500 with remote!
So on this rare occasion we come across one of these components that is a bit special and too good to send off to recycling.
Impressive Made in Japan build quality incorporating 2 transformers, 2 huge Elna Mains caps & honeycomb heat sinks. With a very nice remote for it's time. Quite weighty at 17.5kgs
The other aspect that impresses us is the "as new" condition. Including no signs of wear on the remote
Not working when we tested it so we arranged for our Electronic Engineer to service it
Sound quality was still a huge focus with this amplifier because it had evolved from a stereo/music component
it was still early in the evolution of Home Theatre (eg no DVD options) so this one wasn't crammed with multiple surround modes and processing formats or lots of channels needing to be driven and managed. Over time sound quality suffered so most multi channel functionality a lower priority
